Within a 24-hour span, police have apprehended multiple individuals in connection with two distinct robberies in Barataria and Couva. The first incident occurred late on February 25, 2026, when a 38-year-old supervising police officer was targeted by two men attempting to steal his phone on 6th Avenue near St. George’s Savannah. The officer, however, managed to retrieve his device and flagged down a patrol vehicle, resulting in the capture of both suspects aged 26 and 25. The suspects are currently under investigation at the Barataria Police Station. In an unrelated incident in Couva on the same day, a 16-year-old student from Couva East Secondary School was robbed at knifepoint in a hardware store car park. The student was relieved of a Samsung A22 cellphone and some cash by two male teenagers who were later arrested and charged with robbery with aggravation. Investigations into both incidents are still underway.
