Reach Within, a charity that supports Grenadian children and youth who have experienced abuse or trauma, is celebrating a milestone at this year’s New York City Marathon. The organization’s largest marathon team to date—21 runners from Grenada, Puerto Rico, the United States and the United Kingdom—has pledged to raise more than $90,000 for its programs. The funds will support trauma‑healing initiatives that teach life skills, leadership and job readiness, as well as individual mentorship, counseling, a food pantry and clothing for children who are currently in or have aged out of Child Protective Services. Philomena Robertson, the first Grenadian to complete the World Marathon Majors, is running her ninth NYC Marathon for Reach Within. “This is my 9th NYC marathon running in support of Reach Within, and I have pledged to continue supporting them as long as my legs will carry me,” Robertson said. “Over the years, I’ve raised thousands of dollars to support the organisation as it continues to make a difference in the lives of Grenadian children who have experienced abuse or other trauma.” She added that the financial support comes from generous donors and encouraged others to visit Reach Within’s website to learn more and contribute. The marathon weekend will begin with a Caribbean luncheon hosted by Negril Village, a popular Jamaican restaurant in New York City. Founder and owner Marva Layne said the restaurant is launching its “Foreign Friends” initiative by sponsoring the pre‑marathon event. “We at Negril Village believe that it takes a village to strengthen our community and support our culture, and it is our great pleasure to do our part in supporting Grenada,” Layne said. “Thank you, Reach Within, for the opportunity to create a diaspora connection within the Caribbean American Experience.” Reach Within is grateful for the partnership with Negril Village and the broader Caribbean diaspora’s commitment to uplifting communities back home. The charity invites additional donations to help the team reach its fundraising goal. The full roster of runners and donation options are available on Reach Within’s website.
