MP Al-Daher to PM Salam: Pursue Tax Evaders, Don’t Tax Compliant Citizens

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with MP Michel Al-Daher at the Grand Serail on Tuesday, where the discussion focused on economic developments and the pressing issue of tax evasion. Al-Daher emphasized the need to aggressively pursue tax evaders rather than imposing additional taxes on citizens who already comply with their obligations.

The meeting also covered broader national affairs, particularly development and service projects in the Bekaa region. Al-Daher raised concerns about the needs of Zahle district, stressing the importance of enhancing infrastructure and services to support local communities.

Economic challenges were a central topic, with both officials acknowledging the difficult financial climate. Al-Daher argued that cracking down on tax evasion would increase state revenue without further burdening law-abiding taxpayers, a stance that could influence upcoming fiscal policies.

The meeting comes as Lebanon continues to grapple with a severe economic crisis, and the government faces pressure to implement reforms without alienating citizens. Al-Daher’s position offers a potential path forward that prioritizes enforcement over new taxes.
