José Mourinho, coach of Real Madrid, said he would not comment on Cristiano Ronaldo’s farewell to the Portuguese national team. “It must be respected, and I respect it. It is not a retirement. His career is not finished. Anyone who knows him knows he still has goals to achieve,” Mourinho told reporters. Mourinho also expressed frustration with how the farewell was handled. “The only thing I would have liked is for his retirement as a footballer to have taken place on a different day than yesterday,” he added, criticizing the fact that Ronaldo appeared in a video reading a letter to fans rather than participating in a large public event, such as the one Lionel Messi had recently held for Argentina.
