Mottley Launches Pearly App to Boost Citizen Engagement in Barbados

In a significant move to improve citizen engagement, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced the launch of the Pearly app today, designed to empower Barbadians to report community concerns directly to the government. The initiative is a response to the need for a more efficient and responsive governance system, and it aims to tackle both major and minor issues that affect everyday life. “We are going to change how Bajans interact with their society,” Mottley stated during the launch, emphasizing that while the technology is a tool, its purpose is vital.

Developed with the help of talented young Bajans, Pearly is more than just an app; it’s a platform allowing citizens to actively participate in the governance process. From reporting potholes to highlighting other local concerns, the app strives to bridge the gap between citizens and government authorities. Mottley acknowledged that addressing smaller irritants is as crucial as handling larger transformational projects.

By leveraging data analytics, the government hopes to not only address reported issues but also improve overall efficiency in responding to citizen feedback. This initiative showcases a commitment to fostering a more engaged and active citizenry in Barbados, with the potential to reshape how government and citizens communicate and collaborate.
