Morvant Man Charged for Prison Smuggling

On August 11th, 2025, a Morvant man, Alex G. Edwards, was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 after appearing in the High Court on charges of throwing prohibited articles into the Frederick Street Prison. Edwards was also charged with possessing 162.9 grammes of cannabis. The hearing, presided over by Master Indira Chinebass, mandates that Edwards report to the Morvant Police Station twice a week between 6 am and 6 pm. The case has been adjourned to October 31st, 2025.

The arrest was part of a coordinated operation led by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro and Deputy Commissioner Suzette Martin, involving officers who executed the operation between 5 pm and 8:25 pm on August 10th, 2025. Edwards was apprehended for throwing contraband into the prison on four occasions earlier this year—specifically on February 27th, June 1st, June 10th, and July 12th. Furthermore, he was charged with cannabis possession, which took place on August 2nd in the Morvant district.

PC Jagram is the complainant in this case. Commissioner Guevarro praised the thorough investigations conducted by the police team in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service and intelligence agencies, emphasizing the authorities’ commitment to intercepting and prosecuting any attempts to smuggle contraband into prisons. He reassured the public that the TTPS, alongside law enforcement partners, is dedicated to maintaining the security and integrity of all prison facilities against external threats.
