Ministry Steps In to Address Poultry Supply Challenges Amid Extreme Heat Conditions

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has stepped in to address growing concerns about the availability of poultry in Trinidad and Tobago. The Ministry assures the public that the government is actively monitoring the situation and collaborating with stakeholders within the poultry sector.

Recent challenges in poultry supply are not due to a lack of production capacity but are primarily influenced by adverse local weather conditions. Exceptionally high temperatures have placed additional pressure on farmers, necessitating the implementation of heat-management strategies and, in some cases, a reduction in the number of birds placed on farms.

The Ministry highlights that these temporary reductions are vital for safeguarding bird welfare and ensuring healthy growth. Without these measures, farmers maintaining normal stocking levels under such heat could face increased mortality rates and diminished production.

As the weather improves, the Ministry expects that placement levels will return to normal, aided by modern husbandry practices. This proactive approach is intended to stabilize the poultry supply and ensure the continued availability of chicken in the market.
