Minister Zakour Calls for Collective Action Amid Spike in Road Fatalities

Minister Eli Zakour of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Trinidad and Tobago, recently extended his condolences to those affected by the surge in road traffic fatalities. Zakour emphasized the dire need for improved road consciousness, safer driving practices, and collective responsibility. Since his tenure began, the minister has been promoting road safety by enhancing the visibility of the Traffic Warden Division, fostering stakeholder collaboration, and utilizing traffic data to formulate evidence-based solutions. The Ministry plans to bolster its National Road Safety Strategy through three main pillars: ramping up enforcement, launching nationwide education campaigns, and improving infrastructure. Despite these efforts, Minister Zakour insists that the Ministry’s commitment alone can’t eliminate fatalities, stressing that road users’ daily decisions play a vital part. He urges all citizens to take an active role in road safety.
