Minister Misiekaba Denies Irregularities in ARMULOV Medical Referral Program

Minister of Public Health, Welfare and Labor, André Misiekaba, has moved to dismiss any claims of mismanagement in the ARMULOV regulation, which facilitates medical treatment abroad for Surinamese patients. The minister emphasized that the program is currently being executed without any irregularities.

According to Misiekaba, the decision to send patients overseas is not made by him or his ministry, but by an independent medical committee that assesses each application strictly on medical necessity. This statement comes amid growing public attention on the program’s expenditure and criteria.

The ARMULOV regulation, formally the General Medical Regulation for Overseas Treatment, has been a longstanding mechanism for patients requiring specialized care not available locally. However, concerns about potential abuse or favoritism have periodically surfaced.

By reaffirming the independent committee’s role, the minister aims to assure the public that the process remains transparent and merit-based. The ministry has not indicated any plans for a formal investigation or review of the program’s current operations.
