Transport Minister Jearlean John dismissed a critical S&P Global vessel history report on the MV Blue Wave Harmony, a core shipping-industry record, as mere ‘Wikipedia information’. The report had previously flagged numerous safety and maintenance defects associated with the vessel. Despite the vessel’s record of approximately 30 defects in five countries between 2023 and 2025, and a recent Guardian Media investigation highlighting its troubled history, John brushed off any potential safety concerns related to its subsequent use on the inter-island service. The Blue Wave Harmony arrived in Trinidad and Tobago in late January, only to be damaged during berthing manoeuvres in Tobago a week later. Despite this, John maintains that the vessel will be back in service soon, and that the repair process is in line with international standards.
