Military Personnel Encouraged to Take Action Following Terrorist Attack in Niassa Reserve

**Niassa Secretary of State Calls for Increased Security Following Terrorist Attack**

**MAPUTO** – The Secretary of State for Niassa Province, Silva Livone, has directed the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces (FDS) to intensify operations to protect local residents following a recent terrorist attack in the Niassa Special Reserve.

The assault, which authorities attribute to Islamist militants active in neighboring Cabo Delgado province, targeted the Marangira hunting concession located in the northern part of the Marrupa district.

During the raid, the attackers destroyed all facilities at the Mozambique Wild Adventures (MWA) tourist camp and stole 15 vehicles. In addition to the tourist infrastructure, the militants burned down a local health center and a police station. Reports indicate that an unspecified number of individuals were taken hostage during the incident, and approximately 15 MWA employees were forced to flee the area.

Secretary of State Livone visited the site to assess the damage and evaluate the status of essential services and the safety of local communities. Following the assessment, he urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

This incident marks the second major terrorist attack reported in Niassa Province. In June 2025, militants destroyed facilities at the Kambako hunting ground, also located within the Niassa Special Reserve near the border of Cabo Delgado’s Meluco, Montepuez, and Mueda districts. During that 2025 attack, an unspecified number of people were also taken hostage.
