Public Pressure Brings Swift Action on St. Lucien Road Repairs

Less than 24 hours after publicly highlighting the deteriorating condition of St. Lucien Road, repair crews have begun work on the damaged roadway, according to Mayor of the Diego Martin Borough Corporation, Akeliah Glasgow-Warner.

Speaking during a live video from the site on Wednesday night, Glasgow-Warner thanked the workers carrying out the repairs, saying her only goal was to ensure residents received the service they had been requesting for months.

The Mayor explained that after releasing a video on Tuesday calling attention to the condition of the road and appealing for urgent intervention, she was contacted early Wednesday by an official who advised that the repairs fell under the responsibility of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).

Despite that clarification, Glasgow-Warner said assigning blame was never her objective.

She said repeated reports from residents, councillors and the Diego Martin Borough Corporation through official channels had produced little response, making social media a last resort after months of unsuccessful requests and discussions.

While welcoming the ongoing repairs, the Mayor noted that one section of the roadway near a leaking pipeline cannot yet be resurfaced until the leak is repaired.

Glasgow-Warner also renewed her call for representatives of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to attend the Borough Corporation’s Regional Coordinating Committee meetings, arguing that closer collaboration with local government would help address infrastructure problems before they worsen.

She thanked the workers on site, fellow councillors and residents for their continued advocacy, stressing that her focus remains on improving public infrastructure rather than engaging in political disputes.

The Mayor added that if speaking out publicly is what it takes to secure essential services for residents, she will continue to do so.
