A 31-year-old man has died following a stabbing incident in the vicinity of Elo’s Bar in Mayaro early on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The deceased has been identified as Romario Gonzales, also known as “Buky,” of Ortoire Village, Mayaro.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m., with Gonzales and two other men sustaining stab wounds.
An eyewitness who spoke with TG News alleged that the incident unfolded in two separate confrontations, first inside Elo’s Bar and later outside the establishment.
According to the eyewitness, Gonzales allegedly entered the bar and confronted a group of young men over a matter reportedly involving the mother of his child.
The eyewitness alleged that Gonzales produced a knife and attacked one of the men from behind, stabbing him several times. The man allegedly sustained four stab wounds, including injuries to his head, side and foot, as well as an injury near his throat.
A second man was allegedly stabbed in the foot while attempting to intervene and take the knife away from Gonzales.
According to the eyewitness, the two injured men subsequently left to seek medical treatment and were not present during the later confrontation in which Gonzales sustained his fatal injuries.
The eyewitness alleged that another confrontation occurred outside Elo’s Bar as other individuals attempted to restrain Gonzales and take the knife away from him. During that confrontation, Gonzales was allegedly stabbed twice, once in the shoulder and once in the foot.
Gonzales was subsequently transported to the Mayaro District Health Facility, where he succumbed to his injuries. The other two injured men were later transferred to the Sangre Grande Hospital for further treatment.
The eyewitness also alleged that, before the incident at Elo’s Bar, the mother of Gonzales’ child had made a report to police after Gonzales allegedly assaulted her.
According to the eyewitness, Gonzales subsequently went to Elo’s Bar believing that one of the men there was involved with the mother of his child and confronted the group.
TG News has not independently confirmed the alleged assault or that the mother of Gonzales’ child made a police report. Those details remain allegations attributed to the eyewitness.
The eyewitness also alleged that surveillance footage from Elo’s Bar captured the incident and that police have obtained the footage. TG News has not independently viewed the recording.
TG News contacted the Mayaro Police Station seeking clarification and further information about the incident, but no additional information was available at the time of publication. The TTPS lists Mayaro Police Station as part of its Eastern Division.
