Maxi Taxi Driver Robbed of Cash and Valuables in Fake Private Hire Job

A maxi taxi driver was robbed of cash and valuables on the afternoon of Monday, April 27th, 2026. The driver had been operating his vehicle along the Eastern Main Road route from Arima to Port of Spain when he picked up a passenger at Piarco Junction. The passenger had offered him $300 to transport personal belongings from Malick, Barataria to Lopinot. However, the journey took an unexpected turn. The passenger redirected the trip to Geranium Avenue, Coconut Drive, Morvant. He led the driver up a steep hill and onto a gravel road. It was at this remote location that the driver was robbed. The suspect, brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, took the driver’s Samsung Galaxy phone, $700 in cash, and a phone charger. He then fled the scene, leaving the driver stranded. The police are currently investigating the incident.
