Man Sentenced to Over Three Years for Sexual Assault During Home Invasion
A man who admitted to sexually assaulting a woman during a home invasion in 2017 has been sentenced to just over three years in prison.
Eric Carrington pleaded guilty to grievous sexual assault in June and was recently sentenced by High Court Judge Gail Gonzales.
The court heard that on September 22, 2017, the victim was asleep at her boyfriend’s apartment in Claxton Bay when Carrington entered the home armed with a knife. He stole a small amount of cash from the kitchen counter and attempted to rob the victim, but she had no valuables.
According to the evidence presented, Carrington then sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene.
The victim reported the incident to the police, and Carrington was arrested a few hours later. He was formally charged after the victim identified him during an identification parade.
In delivering the sentence, Justice Gonzales ordered Carrington to serve three years, three months and 15 days in prison. The sentence took into account the time he had already spent in custody following his guilty plea and prior to sentencing.
Carrington was also ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release and to report to the police every three months for a period of ten years.
