Man Granted $750,000 Bail on Child Sexual Assault Charges Linked to MP’s Office

In a case that has attracted significant public attention, a man accused of committing multiple sexual offences against a minor at the Caroni East constituency office has been granted bail. The accused, whose identity remains undisclosed to protect the alleged victim, faces eight serious charges under the Children’s Act. These include six counts of sexual touching of a child, as well as charges for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual penetration of a child.

The allegations surfaced following a report filed at the Cunupia Police Station on May 28. The incident gained wider scrutiny after the victim’s father voiced concerns on social media, prompting a thorough investigation by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s Special Victims Department. The suspect was subsequently arrested on July 31 by officers from the Central Division and formally charged at the Gasparillo Police Station.

During a court appearance before Master Tracey Vidale, the accused was granted bail set at $750,000 with surety. Given the indictable nature of the offences, he was not required to enter a plea. As part of his bail conditions, the accused is prohibited from coming within 200 feet of the alleged victim and from having any form of contact with the child. He is also required to report to the Chaguanas Police Station three times a week.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Special Victims Department, with senior police officials emphasizing their dedication to protecting children and pursuing justice for victims. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicions of child abuse or criminal behaviour promptly to aid in their efforts to safeguard vulnerable members of the community.
