In a shocking incident, a 34-year-old man was shot dead, and two others were wounded at Moonan Road, Wallerfield, early Tuesday morning. The deceased, identified as Anthony Francis, also known as ‘Smalls’, was asleep when an unnamed gunman opened fire through his bedroom window. Among the injured were Francis’ pregnant girlfriend and another unidentified man.
Francis had recently been released from police custody as part of an investigation into damaged vehicles in the area. He and his brother Larry, were working towards a lawful life by rearing livestock. In his grief, Larry said, ‘I can’t say we innocent, we live life we do things in life… but I thank God for being able to be outside and alive.’
A resident of the area, who wished to remain anonymous, heard the gunfire and later saw one of the wounded men rush into his room. He described the terrifying scene, ‘I was just trying to figure out what was going on when one of my friends ran in the room saying he got shot. Then I noticed he had two bullet wounds in his foot. When I run across to see what was going on I see both of them (Francis and his girlfriend) on the ground bleeding.’
In a fortunate turn, the woman’s one-year-old son, who was on the bed during the attack, escaped unharmed.
