An incident is under investigation in Port of Spain involving a man who allegedly duped a seller and stole a Samsung S25 smartphone during a Facebook Marketplace transaction. Reports indicate that around 5:20 p.m. on 4th March 2026, the victim, a resident of Diego Martin, met with the suspect at the intersection of Park and Charlotte Streets to finalize the sale of the smartphone, valued at TT$11,000. The suspect, a slim, dark-skinned man of African descent, around 5’11” tall and dressed in a black short-sleeved jersey and black jeans, gave the victim an envelope, claiming it had cash. Upon checking, the envelope only contained paper. The perpetrator reportedly snatched the phone from the victim and escaped east on Park Street to Bath Street.
