Man Denied Bail After Shooting Attempt on Businesswoman Lisa Maharaj

Kofi Johnson, a Marabella resident, was denied bail and faced a High Court Master on July 8, 2025, related to the shooting incident involving businesswoman Lisa Maharaj. The incident occurred on May 13, when gunmen attempted to force Maharaj’s SUV off the road near Gulf City Mall and opened fire. Fortunately, Maharaj escaped the attack unharmed, although a bullet struck her vehicle’s driver’s door. The attackers’ motives remain unclear as investigations continue into the ongoing threats against the R&J Cell Tech family, to which Maharaj belongs. This incident highlights the alarming rise in violent acts targeting individuals in the business community.
