A 40-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning in El Tarter after allegedly assaulting his partner and fleeing from police while driving under the influence of alcohol. Police were called to the scene around 12:30 AM after a woman was found on the street showing signs of being attacked. While being treated by medical services, she told officers that her partner had left in a car while intoxicated. Officers launched a search in the parish and soon located the vehicle parked with the man inside. When he noticed the police presence, he started the car and attempted to flee. He was eventually stopped and arrested. A breathalyzer test later revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.99 grams per liter, nearly four times the legal limit of 0.5 g/L. The man now faces charges for crimes against physical and moral integrity, obstruction of public function, and endangering collective safety.
