Malaysia Men’s Cricket Team Must Battle Through Preliminaries for 2026 Asian Games Knockout Spot

Malaysia’s men’s cricket team faces a tough road to the knockout stage of the 2026 Asian Games after the draw placed them in Group B of the preliminary round alongside Hong Kong and Oman. The top two teams from each group will advance to join India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, who have secured direct entry into the quarter-finals.

The tournament, set to be held in Nagoya, Japan, from September 24 to October 1, will feature 10 teams competing in T20 format. Malaysia will need to finish in the top two of their group to have a shot at the medal rounds.

India, the defending champions, clinched gold in both men’s and women’s cricket at the 2023 Asian Games. The women’s tournament kicks off earlier, from September 17 to 22, with Malaysia facing Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals.

For Malaysia, the preliminary round offers an opportunity to showcase their cricketing talent on a continental stage, but they must overcome strong opponents to progress.
