Malawi Government has abandoned the flagship programme to construct 900 health posts nationwide, replacing it with a decentralised, demand-driven approach that sets no national construction target.
Minister of Health and Sanitation Madalitso Baloyi confirmed in an interview that her ministry is no longer implementing the 900 health posts project launched by the previous Tonse Alliance administration.
The new strategy shifts decision-making to local authorities, aiming to build facilities based on community needs rather than a centralised quota. Critics, however, warn it may slow progress in underserved areas.
No timeline or funding details for the revised plan have been released.
