Makeda, the woman heard in the viral vehicle video that has generated widespread discussion across Trinidad and Tobago, has thanked members of the public, her family, friends and community for the tremendous support she has received. Speaking during a telephone interview on the 96.1 WEFM Richard Trumpet Morning Show, Makeda said she is doing much better as she continues to deal with the emotional impact of the situation. She told the programme that she never realised how many people were standing behind her and said the response since the video began circulating has shown her that she is not alone. Makeda said her support system has been “great”, adding that assistance and encouragement have come from her family, friends, community and loved ones. She expressed appreciation to everyone who has rallied around her during what has been a difficult period. While Makeda said she is doing better, she acknowledged that emotionally she is still processing everything that has happened. She described her emotions as being “all over the place” and said it feels like a whirlwind of different emotions hitting her at the same time. Despite that, she said she is trying her best to navigate the situation and continue with her everyday responsibilities. Makeda explained that she is a mother and business owner and still has to get up each day and do what needs to be done. She also told the programme that her business is doing well. During the interview, Makeda was asked about the response from police. She said everything did not happen immediately, but indicated that progress began after the video went viral. She added that the support she has received from police thus far has been okay. Makeda declined to discuss further details surrounding the incident, saying she did not wish to speak about those matters at this time. Her main message was that she is okay, she is doing better and she is grateful for the support that has surrounded her. The 96.1 WEFM morning programme also appealed to members of the public to stop circulating the video, noting that the matter is being investigated and urging people to consider the woman involved. For Makeda, the focus now is on moving forward, continuing with her responsibilities and leaning on the people who have shown her that she has a strong support system around her.
