Magnitude 3.6 Earthquake Strikes Near Venezuela Coast, Felt Across Trinidad and Tobago

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck near Venezuela’s northeastern coast early Saturday morning, according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI, SRC). The tremor occurred at 04:17 am local time on July 25, 2026, at a depth of 33 kilometres.

The epicentre was located at latitude 10.39N, longitude 62.63W. The nearest populated centre is Carúpano, Venezuela, approximately 73 kilometres to the southeast. Maturín, Venezuela, lies 93 kilometres northeast, while Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, is about 128 kilometres west-southwest of the event.

The UWI, SRC noted that this is a manual earthquake location and remains a preliminary result. Data may be revised as additional seismic information becomes available.

Residents who felt the earthquake are encouraged to report their experience through the UWI Seismic Research Centre’s online feedback form. Authorities have not reported any damage or injuries at this time.

Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally not destructive but can be felt by people in the vicinity. The region lies within a seismically active zone near the boundary of the Caribbean and South American tectonic plates.
