Magistrate Reserves Ruling in $19.2M Drug Trafficking Case at Roberts Airport

Monrovia City Court Magistrate Ben Barco has reserved ruling in the preliminary hearing of the US$19.2 million drug seizure case at Roberts International Airport.

The case involves defendant Paul King, who is accused of being connected to a cocaine shipment destined for England. The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) intercepted the consignment, which was concealed in packages labeled as Maggi cubes and Lappa.

During final arguments on Monday, the prosecution presented evidence including physical cocaine, shipping receipts, and witness statements. They alleged that King negotiated with individuals after the drugs were discovered and instructed associates to release the package.

Defense lawyers maintained King’s innocence, stating he was in the United States when a customer contacted him about shipping goods. They argued King had no knowledge of the drugs and voluntarily cooperated with investigators.

Magistrate Barco has scheduled the ruling for Wednesday, July 14, 2026.
