Le vin de la semaine : un rouge léger du Québec

A Lightweight Red Wine from Quebec: Les P’tits Tannants 2024

A recent development in Quebec’s wine industry is the improvement in quality of its red wines. While white wines continue to dominate production, accounting for nearly half of the total output in 2025, red wines are gaining recognition for their enhanced quality. This can be attributed to better ripening of grapes, improved acidity, and a focus on producing lighter and more refined wines.

Les P’tits Tannants 2024, produced by Les Artisans du Terroir, is a prime example of this new wave of Quebec red wines. Composed entirely of the Petite Perle grape variety, this wine boasts moderate acidity and complex aromas of dark fruits, blueberries, herbs, and sweet spices. The grapes are cultivated on the slopes of Mount Yamaska in Saint-Paul-d’Abbotsford by David Guertin and Robert Lafont, while Robert’s sister, Isabelle Lafont, handles the winemaking process, employing a gentle extraction method to bring out the natural fruitiness and smoothness of the Petite Perle grape.

With an alcohol content of 11.5%, this wine offers a juicy and lightweight taste experience. Despite its lightness, it leaves a satisfying and complete impression. Les P’tits Tannants 2024 can be served chilled, at a temperature of 14°C, and pairs well with a variety of dishes, from burgers to eggplant parmesan.

This wine is available for purchase with the code SAQ 15287788 at a price of $24.40. It is a testament to the evolving nature of Quebec’s red wines, which are becoming increasingly known for their freshness, finesse, and immediate appeal.
