Khadijah Ameen Addresses Delays in Salaries for Port of Spain Workers

In a recent interview concerning the Port of Spain City Corporation, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen revealed ongoing salary delays impacting municipal workers. Ameen stated that the delays are primarily due to the corporation’s failure to submit essential documents required for salary processing.

The Minister emphasized that, unlike other municipalities, the Port of Spain City Corporation did not meet the necessary deadlines, which has left many employees anxious about meeting their financial obligations. Despite these challenges, Ameen assured the public that her Ministry is scrupulously working to resolve the issue and that they are in communication with the workers’ union.

Ameen expressed frustration over the negligence, attributing the delays to poor administrative practices within the Port of Spain Corporation. She confirmed that the Ministry is committed to correcting the situation, aiming to ensure that workers receive their salaries as soon as possible. Ameen plans to sign off on the necessary documents by the end of the day to facilitate these payments.
