Kes Shares Emotional ‘Full Circle’ Stage Moment With Music Legend Stevie Wonder
Trinidad and Tobago soca star Kes has celebrated what he described as a remarkable “full circle moment” after sharing the stage with legendary American singer and musician Stevie Wonder in Washington, DC.
The memorable encounter came during the 2026 DC JazzFest, where Kes and his band were among the performers taking part in the festival.
But beyond another international performance, the occasion became deeply personal for Kes when he found himself on stage alongside an artiste whose music had been part of his life since childhood.
Sharing the moment on social media, Kes revealed that Stevie Wonder’s hit “I Just Called to Say I Love You” carries special memories of his parents.
“My Dad used to play ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’ to Mom when he was away,” Kes wrote.
He explained that it was the very first record he remembers having on repeat as a child, making the opportunity to eventually share a stage with Wonder particularly significant.
“What a full circle moment it was to share the stage with you tonight!” he wrote.
Kes thanked Wonder for the influence and inspiration his music has provided throughout the years.
“Thank you for your Magic and Inspiration you share with us. We love you,” Kes said.
He also thanked DC JazzFest for having the band and described the encounter with Wonder as a “beautiful surprise”.
The appearance represented another international showcase for Trinidad and Tobago music, with Kes continuing to carry soca and Caribbean culture to audiences outside the region.
Kes also expressed appreciation to everyone who attended and “jammed” with the band, saying they had a great time before telling fans he hoped to see them again in Washington, DC.
For Kes, however, one of the lasting memories of the appearance will likely be the extraordinary journey represented by his encounter with Wonder.
A record his father once played for his mother became part of Kes’ earliest musical memories. Decades later, the Trinidad and Tobago artiste found himself standing on stage alongside the man who created it.
