Jessica Sery has been appointed as the new director of the Louis Rollin Hospital in Nuku Hiva, the only hospital facility in the Marquesas Islands. In addition to her role at the hospital, Sery will oversee the health subdivision of the archipelago.
Sery, 44, previously served as a health executive at the Uturoa Hospital in Raiatea. She stated that her previous experience as a frontline health executive in emergency, operating room, and pharmacy services will inform her new responsibilities, which involve a broader organizational and decision-making scope.
The health network under her supervision includes 18 health structures across six islands, in addition to the Louis Rollin Hospital and its dispensary in Taiohae. These facilities range from major medical centers in Atuona and Hakahau to smaller infirmaries and aid stations staffed by nursing assistants.
Sery plans to visit these units starting in mid-October to meet with medical staff, local authorities, and the population. She intends to tour the northern subdivision in mid-October, followed by the southern subdivision between late October and early November, to assess future collaborative projects.
