Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, has temporarily left the jurisdiction to attend a family funeral overseas. Her return is scheduled for Wednesday, 24 June 2026. In light of Persad-Bissessar’s absence, a temporary assignment has been set in place. The Minister of Works and Infrastructure, the Honourable Jearlean John, MP, will step in to fill the role as Prime Minister. This is not a permanent change, but a provisional arrangement to ensure the smooth running of governmental operations. John is expected to resume her original post as soon as Persad-Bissessar returns.
