Jamaica, T&T Break Ice in Olympic Bobsleigh

Just two days ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago are making history by competing in the premier four-man bobsleigh event for the first time. The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation has confirmed this monumental event where the two island nations will display their speed and spirit in a sport known for its gravity-defying speed. The Jamaican team will be led by Shane Pitter, with other members including Andrae Dacres, Junior Harris, Tyquendo Tracey, and Joel Fearon. The teams’ participation has sparked global excitement, thanks to the enduring legacy of the 1993 film Cool Runnings, which was based on Jamaica’s dramatic debut at the 1988 Calgary Games. Reports from all over the world are tracking the Caribbean athletes’ final preparations. Jamaica has also qualified in three of the four bobsleigh events, with Mica Moore in the women’s monobob and Shane Pitter’s men’s two-man team. Trinidad and Tobago, also marking a historic appearance, has qualified a men’s two-man sled led by Axel Brown with athletes Shakeel John, De Aundre John, Xaverri Williams, and Micah Moore.
