Jamaica: Police Investigate Theft at Scotiabank ABM Servicing Room in Portmore

Police in Jamaica are investigating a theft that took place at a Scotiabank Automated Banking Machine (ABM) servicing room on Braeton Parkway in Portmore, St. Catherine. The incident reportedly involved thieves making off with an undetermined amount of cash.

According to reports, surveillance footage captured several men dressed in black arriving at the location in a grey Nissan Latio. The vehicle’s license plate was obscured, complicating identification efforts. Investigators have indicated that the suspects gained access to four ABM safes using security access codes, allowing them to remove cash without any signs of forced entry into the facility.

It has been noted that only the cassettes containing higher-denomination Jamaican currency and U.S. currency were emptied during the theft. The servicing room is designated for specialized staff from Beryllium, the company responsible for servicing the machines, and is not accessible to bank employees.

Each safe is believed to have the capacity to hold more than J$20 million. Detectives are actively pursuing the investigation to gather more information regarding the incident and the individuals involved. The police are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in their inquiries.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to enhance security measures at similar facilities to prevent future incidents of this nature.
