Jólahlaðborð og jólabröns á verði sem kemur á óvart

Brasserie Askur, a long-standing restaurant on Suðurlandsbraut, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with a series of traditional holiday offerings. The restaurant’s Christmas buffet season begins on November 13, with a special holiday brunch service launching the following day. Daníel Friðriksson, owner and managing director of Brasserie Askur, stated that the restaurant aims to provide classic Icelandic holiday fare at an accessible price point. The menu features traditional dishes such as pork roast (purusteik), grilled leg of lamb, and turkey, alongside a cold buffet selection including pickled herring, cured and smoked salmon, and pâté. Other staples include wild mushroom soup with cognac, hangikjöt (smoked lamb) with white sauce, caramelized potatoes, and homemade red cabbage. Dessert options include crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, the restaurant’s signature meringue cake, and ris à la mande. The Christmas buffet is priced at 11,900 ISK per person. Children aged six to twelve are charged 4,900 ISK, while children five and under eat for free when accompanied by a paying adult. To ensure quality, evening service is divided into two seatings: 17:00–19:00 and 20:00–22:00. For those preferring a daytime celebration, the restaurant will host a holiday brunch on Saturdays and Sundays starting November 14. The menu combines traditional brunch items—such as scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes—with holiday favorites like herring, cured salmon, and pork roast. The brunch is priced at 7,900 ISK for adults and 3,500 ISK for children aged six to twelve. In addition to the holiday menus, Brasserie Askur will host its traditional Þorláksmessa (December 23) event, featuring fermented skate (skata), saltfish, and plokkfiskur, priced at 7,900 ISK. The restaurant also produces a house-made holiday schnapps infused with Icelandic spruce and star anise, which will be available to guests. Beyond its seasonal offerings, the restaurant is currently running a 60th-anniversary promotion on its weekday lunch buffet, reducing the price to 2,990 ISK for the remainder of the year. Brasserie Askur also provides catering services for corporate and private groups, offering options ranging from simple hangikjöt meals to full-service holiday buffets.
