J’cans set for busy opening day at Ultimate Champs

Jamaica will field ten athletes on the opening day of the Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The first final of the championships is the mixed 4×100 metres relay, scheduled for 12:08 p.m. Jamaica time. The team is expected to be a strong contender after setting a world record of 39.62 seconds at the World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, in May. Although anchor Tia Clayton will not be part of the quartet, Jamaica has several capable replacements.

In the field events, Lamara Distin will compete in the women’s high‑jump final at 1:55 p.m. Jamaica time.

Track events will feature Jamaican athletes in the sprint hurdles semi‑finals. In the women’s 100 metres hurdles, semi‑final 1 will include Megan Simmonds and Ackera Nugent, while semi‑final 2 will feature Demisha Roswell and Daniellle Williams. The men’s 110 metres hurdles semi‑finals will have Demario Prince and Orlando Bennett in semi‑final 1, and Tyler Mason in semi‑final 2.

The women’s 100 metres hurdles final is set for 2:20 p.m. Jamaica time, followed by the men’s 110 metres hurdles final at 2:49 p.m. Jamaica’s women’s 400 metres semi‑finals will involve Niickisha Pryce and Stacy Ann Williams, with the final scheduled for the following day.
