Ivory and rhino skull among 5,800 illegal wildlife items surrendered in Dutch operation

Some 5,800 prohibited objects, including elephant ivory and a rhino skull, have been anonymously handed in to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The items were surrendered as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade.

The RVO confirmed receipt of the collection, which includes a range of wildlife products banned under international regulations. The anonymous surrender suggests public engagement in enforcement measures.

Experts say such large-scale handovers are rare and signal growing awareness about the impact of wildlife trafficking. The agency will process and dispose of the items in compliance with CITES rules.

The investigation into the origins of the items continues, with no arrests reported so far.
