Irish Government jet involved in Daniel Kinahan extradition lands in Ireland

An Irish Government jet involved in the extradition of Daniel Kinahan, the alleged leader of the Kinahan organised crime group, has landed in Ireland. The jet touched down at Casement aerodrome in Baldonnel, on the outskirts of Dublin, at approximately 6:30pm.

Kinahan, a Dublin boxing promoter in his late 40s, was arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in April. His detention was made on foot of an arrest warrant issued by the Irish courts in relation to alleged serious organised crime offences.

The extradition was confirmed by the ministers of justice for Ireland and the UAE, following a formal request submitted by Irish authorities. The final decision was made after a judgment by the Dubai Court of Cassation, in accordance with the extradition treaty between the two countries.

In a joint statement, Jim O’Callaghan and Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi said that the extradition decision “reflects the steadfast commitment of both countries to the rule of law and reinforces international judicial co-operation”.

Kinahan is scheduled to appear before the Special Criminal Court later.
