**TBILISI** — Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has appointed Ioseb Alibegashvili as the new state representative in the southern region of Samtskhe-Javakheti.
The appointment follows the death of the region’s previous governor, Zaal Gelashvili, who passed away on August 5. The Government Administration announced the decision on August 14.
According to an official press release, Prime Minister Kobakhidze and Mamuka Mdinaradze—who is serving temporarily as the Georgian Dream Regional Development Minister—met with Alibegashvili at the Government Administration to discuss ongoing and planned infrastructure and development projects in the region.
Prior to his new appointment, Alibegashvili served as the deputy state representative in the Kvemo Kartli region.
This follows another recent regional appointment on August 12, when Kobakhidze named Levan Zautashvili, a former deputy regional development minister, as the state representative for the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region.
