On Sunday, 13 September, customs officials and Spanish Tax Agency officers seized 1,494 contraband cigarettes at the customs office in Farga de Moles, near the Spanish border with Andorra.
The cigarettes, valued at more than €25,000, were found in a suitcase inside a regular bus that had arrived from Andorra. The seizure took place at approximately 5 p.m. during a routine fiscal inspection.
After parking the bus in the designated customs area, officers asked the driver and passengers whether they were carrying any goods subject to declaration. All denied transporting any such items. During a subsequent vehicle inspection, the officers discovered the suitcase containing the contraband cigarettes.
When questioned about the origin of the goods, a 37‑year‑old passenger stated that the cigarettes were his property and that he had purchased them in Andorra. The items were later verified by the Tax Agency.
Following the intervention, the officers initiated proceedings for a contraband offence. The cigarettes were placed in the custody of the Farga de Moles customs office and made available to the judicial authorities. The operation was carried out by agents of the Guardia Civil’s Fiscal Guard and officers of the Spanish Tax Agency.
Farga de Moles is located in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, near the border with Andorra.
