An inmate at the Port of Spain Prison in Trinidad and Tobago was found dead in his cell, in an apparent suicide, according to the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service. The inmate was discovered by prison officers during routine checks, hanging inside his cell. Emergency procedures were activated immediately, and Medical Services were quick to respond and administer first aid. However, the inmate was unresponsive and showed no signs of life. The District Medical Officer and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service were informed and attended the scene promptly. The inmate’s family has been notified of the tragic event by a Welfare Officer. The Prison Service, while expressing their deep condolences to the bereaved family, have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
