On Thursday, September 17, 2026, Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced that the country’s crude oil supply remains secure and will continue to meet national demand, including imports from Russia.
Speaking at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Bahlil said, “I stated that the availability of our crude oil—including supplies from Russia—is secure, insha Allah.” He added that further details on the volume and timing of Russian crude imports for the second phase would be released at a later date.
The minister noted that technical information regarding Russia’s crude oil supplies would be provided when appropriate. “I will explain other technical details regarding Russia at the appropriate time,” he said.
Indonesia’s purchase of Russian crude oil is part of a government‑to‑government cooperation that extends to the government‑to‑business level. The government is evaluating oil sources in light of global developments, as domestic production remains below the 2026 target.
According to ESDM records, Indonesia’s national oil production on September 8, 2026 was 571,731 barrels per day, short of the 610,000 barrels per day target for the year.
