Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions have moved up one place in FIFA’s latest world rankings despite missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup and playing no matches since the previous update.
The rankings, published on July 20 by world football governing body FIFA, place the Indomitable Lions 43rd in the world, up from 44th on June 11. The slight improvement comes as a result of other teams’ results affecting the ranking calculus.
Cameroon failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which is being hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The team has not played an official match since the last ranking period.
Despite the inactivity, the rise could provide a minor advantage in seeding for future African Cup of Nations qualifiers or World Cup qualifying draws. Fans have reacted with mixed feelings, celebrating the positive movement but questioning its merit without on-field performance.
