Indian Oil Corporation Eyes Restart of Trinidad Refinery

Trinidad and Tobago is closer to restarting the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) set to send a technical team to evaluate the facility. The announcement was made by Energy Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal after high-level discussions with Indian energy giants during India Energy Week 2026. The IOC operates 10 refineries in India and shows confidence in the local workforce of Trinidad and Tobago. The technical visit is expected to provide insight into what’s required to restart the operations. Additionally, talks were held with Reliance Industries Limited, operator of the world’s largest single-site refinery, showing interest in the Pointe-a-Pierre asset. Indian Oil’s interest extends beyond Trinidad and Tobago, exploring opportunities within the wider Caribbean region, potentially positioning Trinidad and Tobago as a key regional energy hub.
