In the third and final Twenty20 International between India and Afghanistan, played on Thursday, 17 September 2026, India’s opening batsman Abhishek Sharma produced a record‑breaking performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Sharma reached his century in just 30 deliveries, smashing 11 sixes and nine fours. His 108 runs came from 34 balls, setting a new world record for the fastest century in an international T20 match for India. The previous record was held by Rohit Sharma, who scored a century in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017.
India’s innings began strongly, posting 100 runs in the first six overs without losing a wicket – the highest powerplay total in the history of the series. The team went on to post a competitive total, with Sharma’s explosive knock forming the backbone of the score.
Abhishek Sharma’s achievement surpassed the earlier 33‑ball record held jointly by Sikander Raja and Finn Allen, further cementing his reputation as one of India’s most destructive opening batsmen.
India’s victory in the match secured a 2‑1 series win over Afghanistan.
