**India Joins Global 6G Alliance Following G20 Innovation Ministerial**

**CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina** — India has officially joined the United States and 24 other nations in a global initiative aimed at guiding the development and deployment of next-generation 6G telecommunications networks. The U.S. Department of Commerce announced the partnership on Monday, following the G20 Innovation Ministers’ meeting held on September 1 and 2.

The agreement was finalized during a bilateral meeting between U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and India’s Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada.

In a statement, the U.S. Department of Commerce noted that the alliance is intended to ensure that future telecommunications networks align with shared security interests, bolster international competitiveness, and foster innovation in 6G technology.

Minister Prasada led the Indian delegation at the G20 Innovation Ministerial, which was hosted by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). The Indian delegation included officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and representatives from the Embassy of India in the U.S.

At the conclusion of the summit, G20 ministers issued a joint statement acknowledging that emerging technologies are essential for driving prosperity, productivity, and expanded opportunities.

Beyond the 6G agreement, Minister Prasada and Secretary Lutnick held discussions regarding cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and data centers. According to the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Prasada encouraged increased U.S. investment in India’s semiconductor mission (ISM 2.0) and proposed the establishment of a mechanism for AI safety and technology partnerships.

Writing on social media, Minister Prasada described semiconductors, AI, and data centers as the “critical building blocks of the emerging digital economy.” He stated that the bilateral discussions focused on deepening practical collaboration and advancing technology-led opportunities between the two nations.

The visit concluded with an emphasis on India’s role in the global technology agenda, with officials reaffirming a commitment to strategic partnerships in robotics, digital public infrastructure (DPI), and other emerging fields.
