A fire broke out on Thursday morning at the Hogar de Paso, a residential facility operated by the Consejo Nacional para la Niñez y la Adolescencia (Conani) in La Romana. According to a statement from Conani, the blaze caused only material damage and was extinguished by the local fire department. No injuries were reported. Conani confirmed that the adolescents receiving care at the facility were unharmed. They were transferred to other Conani facilities where they remain under proper supervision. The organization is working with relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances that led to the fire.
