Incendies des marchés et galeries marchandes : la chasse aux présumés pyromanes confiée aux Imbonerakure avec une prime de 500 millions BIF

**Burundi: Government Youth Wing Assigned to Identify Suspected Arsonists, Offered 500 Million BIF Reward**

Bujumbura — The ruling party’s youth organization, Imbonerakure, has been tasked with locating individuals suspected of setting a series of fires that have damaged markets and shopping centres across Burundi. According to a report published by *Iwacu Burundi*, the group will receive a reward of 500 million Burundian francs for each person it apprehends who is deemed responsible for the incidents.

The fires, described in the report as “repeated” and “reducing markets and commercial centres to ashes,” have prompted the authorities to enlist Imbonerakure in the investigation. The announcement indicates that the youth wing of the ruling CNDD‑FDD party has been given a “juicy” mission, with the monetary incentive intended to encourage the identification and capture of alleged arsonists.

No further details were provided regarding the number of incidents, the specific locations affected, or the timeline of the fires. The report also did not include statements from government officials, Imbonerakure representatives, or any of the individuals alleged to be involved.
