Ihezuo Believes Super Falcons Will Secure World Cup Ticket in Morocco

Nigerian striker Chinwendu Ihezuo has expressed confidence that the Super Falcons will secure a ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the upcoming Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Speaking ahead of the tournament, which runs from July 26 to August 16, Ihezuo acknowledged the competition will be tougher than last year’s edition, as teams now have a World Cup berth at stake. ‘This tournament will be tougher, much tougher. When the first whistle blows, the focus of all teams will be on the World Cup ticket,’ she said.

Ihezuo, a former junior international who plays for Pachuca Tuzas in Mexico, emphasized the team’s unity and determination. ‘I believe in our team, the oneness amongst us, our hard work, and the courage that keeps us going. We are not only going for a World Cup ticket but also to retain the Cup,’ she added.

The striker also addressed her recent injury, confirming she is fully fit and ready to contribute to Nigeria’s campaign. ‘God has been great. I am now healed and fully recovered. My club is in pre-season, but I am ready to fly to Morocco and team up with the Super Falcons to make Nigeria proud,’ she stated.

The Super Falcons are the most successful team in WAFCON history, aiming for an 11th title. The 2026 edition in Morocco will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, raising the stakes for all participating nations.
