A 22-year-old Estonian citizen has been arrested and is currently under investigation for attempted murder following a violent assault on an airport employee at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). According to reports from RBB 24 and Bild.de, the incident occurred after two passengers from Estonia arrived late for an airBaltic flight and were denied boarding at the gate.
Police stated that the dispute escalated when the 22-year-old suspect struck a 48-year-old airport staff member. The victim required medical attention and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
While the Cottbus public prosecutor’s office initially classified the incident as a case of grievous bodily harm, the charges were upgraded to attempted murder following a re-evaluation of the evidence. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued, and the suspect is currently being held in custody in Brandenburg.
Aletta von Massenbach, the airport’s chief executive officer, described the level of violence as shocking. The state police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
