What began as a thoughtful surprise for his wife has reportedly turned into disappointment for one man after the brand-new iPhone Duo he purchased for her developed screen damage just one day later.
In a video shared by Instagram account smithandwellnessppt.llc, the husband initially showed off Apple’s new foldable smartphone, appearing excited about the purchase.
However, his follow-up video delivered a very different update.
“One day update, it is broken,” he told viewers.
According to the husband, his wife attempted to unfold the device the following morning but found that it appeared to be stuck.
He explained that when she finally managed to open it, she heard a cracking sound.
The footage shows the unfolded phone with visible lines running across its internal display, adding to growing concerns about the durability of Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
The husband also claimed that T-Mobile informed him replacement parts would not be available until January, potentially leaving the couple facing a lengthy wait.
His experience is among several complaints emerging since the iPhone Duo officially went on sale on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Other customers have reported similar incidents involving cracks along the central folding mechanism, bright white lines and display failures occurring within hours or days of purchase.
Technology publication 9to5Mac identified approximately ten separate reports by October 25, including cases where devices reportedly failed during their initial setup.
In one widely reported incident, an Australian customer claimed the internal display cracked after approximately six hours of ownership and fewer than 20 openings.
Apple has since acknowledged that a small number of iPhone Duo devices are experiencing internal display problems.
In a statement issued on October 26, the company advised affected customers to contact AppleCare for a replacement.
The company’s replacement guidance contrasts with the T-Mobile information described by the husband. His account of being told that parts would not be available until January has not been independently verified.
With a starting price of US$1,999, the iPhone Duo represents a significant investment for consumers attracted to Apple’s long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone market.
Although the complaints have attracted considerable attention online, there is currently insufficient evidence to establish how widespread the problem may be.
Apple has not announced a recall or confirmed the precise cause of the failures.
For this couple, however, the disappointment came almost immediately, turning what was supposed to be an exciting new gift into a frustrating experience.
