The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged the Federal Government to halt plans to transfer the management of King’s College in Lagos to the school’s Old Boys’ Association under a proposed public‑private partnership (PPP).
HURIWA’s statement, written by Chioma Obinna, calls for the immediate publication of the legal and contractual documents that would underpin the proposed concession. The association argues that without full disclosure of the framework, the move could undermine the school’s public status and the rights of its stakeholders.
King’s College, founded in 1909, is one of Nigeria’s oldest and most prestigious secondary schools. The proposed PPP would shift operational control from the federal Ministry of Education to the alumni association, a change that has sparked debate among educators, parents and civil society groups.
HURIWA’s appeal reflects broader concerns about transparency and accountability in the management of public educational institutions. The association has previously campaigned for the protection of human rights in Nigerian media and education.
